Welcome to my new blog series, A Day in the Life with a Senior. This is my way of documenting my daughter’s senior year of high school. Because, let’s face it, I’ve only got one year left with my girl before she heads off to college. And I want to remember the laughter, the struggles, and everything in between.

It seems like yesterday that my daughter was an infant and people would tell me, “Enjoy every minute, it will go by so quickly.” Annoyed, I would stare back at them with glazed, sleep-deprived eyes and think that they were crazy. Because I’m pretty sure that any given day felt like the longest day of my life. I thought the crying, feeding, and diaper changing would never end. I couldn’t remember the last time I washed my hair. Or had an adult conversation that didn’t involve pacifiers, poopy diapers, or sleep schedules. And here I am, 17 years later. And guess what, they were right. Sigh.

Are there things I wish I had done differently? Of course. I could name them, but the list would be long. And embarrassing. You’d probably think I’m the worst parent ever. So let’s just gloss over that. Because I must have done a few things right. She’s a good kid, she’s fun to be around, and she does well in school. This overprotective, mamma bear couldn’t ask for more.

For us, school starts next week. Our district will be doing 100% distance learning for the fall. We haven’t received the final details of what the schedule will be. I’m curious to know how tests will be administered to prevent cheating. Or how my daughter will do labs for AP Bio. I’m hoping that there will be a way for the students to connect, other than sitting on endless Zoom calls. I know that everything will work out because our district is working hard to provide the best experience for the students. I just need to be patient.

I’m curious what your school experience will be like this fall. Let me know in the comments if it will be distance learning, in person learning, or a combination.

I love you blog. Yes, I remember the days people would tell me, Enjoy every moment as they grow up quickly”. Yes in the moment endless diapers seem like it goes on forever. After raising 2 kids with no parent handbook, my husband and I did quite well.

It’s so tough for the class of 2020 and 2021. I couldn’t imagine raising kids with all of this going on. Wish her a year that will get better and hopefully back to somewhat normal.
